Why Choose a Vertical Platform Lift?
Space confinements
Sometimes, there just isn’t room for a ramp. ADA guidelines for ramps require at least one foot of ramp for every 12 inches of rise. For some homes, there simply isn’t room. In those cases, vertical platform lifts are often the best choice because they have a small footprint.
User ability
Sometimes it is physically impossible for a person in a traditional wheelchair to maneuver themselves up an inclined ramp. A vertical platform lift essentially makes getting on your porch or deck effortless.
Caregiver safety
Caregiver safety is crucial. Depending on the physical condition of the caregiver, pushing a wheelchair up a ramp may be impossible or increase the risk of injury.
Need a Temporary Solution? Rent a VPL
Sometimes our customers only need a short-term VPL while they recover from an injury or surgery. Renting a vertical platform lift is a great solution. You can rent a VPL by the month, keep it as long as you need it, and we’ll come get it when you’re done.

How Much Does a VPL Cost?
Residential vertical platform lifts can cost between $12,000 and $17,000 including labor. Make/Model, configuration (extra platforms, gates, etc.), and optional accessories all contribute to pricing differences.
How Do VPLs Attach to the Ground?
Vertical platform lifts must be anchored in concrete to support the weight of the user and their mobility device. If your VPL is placed in your garage or on a patio, you likely won’t need anything extra. But if there is no concrete, a concrete pad that is a minimum of 5′ x 5′ will need to be poured. For our projects, we typically recommend an even larger pad to allow for any necessary platforms.
If you need a concrete pad poured for your VPL, expect to pay at least $1,200.
Where Can You Put a Vertical Platform Lift?
VPLs are most commonly placed at entrances to a home, like a front door, garage entrance, or deck.
However, there are times when VPLs are installed inside homes for areas that have elevation changes of 6 feet or less.
Should I Choose a VPL or a Ramp?
While vertical platform lifts are ideal for tight spaces or when users can’t manage a ramp, there are cases where aluminum wheelchair ramps may be a better fit. Ramps are cost-effective, quick to install, and great for shorter rises where space allows.
