Choosing the right ramp for your home can feel overwhelming—especially when you’re not sure what kind of ramp you actually need. With so many types available, it’s important to understand that each ramp has a specific purpose. And not every ramp is safe or practical for every situation.
Let’s break it down by size and function, so you can find the right solution with confidence.
The Initial Call
In early May, I received a call from a woman who had seen one of our vans out doing work near her summer home. As we spoke, she relayed to me that she lives in mid-Michigan, but also has a summer home up north. She also confided that her husband suffers from dementia, and, in order for him to continue safely visiting the summer home, she needed some grab bars and handrails added.
The Evaluation
When our technician, Dan, arrived to evaluate, the customer also had a well-known walk-in shower company there to do an evaluation of the bathroom with the intention of adding a new barrier-free shower.
As a result, she asked Dan to also evaluate for a barrier-free shower, since he was already on-site.
The Quote and the Follow-Up
After we provided a quote, I spoke with the customer who made her expectations very clear and laid out what would influence her decision on which company to use for her shower. First, she needed the project to be completed by Memorial Day weekend so that she and her husband could safely enjoy the home as they kicked off the summer season.
Second, we needed to be competitive on the pricing.
After speaking with our team, it was determined that we could meet the deadline (approximately 4 weeks from the initial call), and our quote came in lower than our competitor and we ultimately won the bid.
Completing the Project
Fast forward to the week prior to Memorial Day weekend, and not only did our customer have a brand new barrier-free shower, but she also had a handrail at her back door and grab bars both inside the home as well as at her back deck door. She was ecstatic.
It’s incredibly rewarding to see how the right accessibility improvements can restore not just safety, but also peace of mind and the ability to enjoy life. This project was a perfect example of how clear communication, timely follow-through, and thoughtful solutions can make a lasting impact for families navigating life changes.
