Just like your sidewalk, over the winter months your wheelchair ramp will inevitably accumulate snow and ice . Here’s how to safely remove snow and ice from your wheelchair ramp this winter.
1. Don't Use Rock Salt on Your Ramp
Rock salt is corrosive and will damage the aluminum. Instead, use a pet-safe ice melting product. Generally, if it’s safe for pets, it’s safe for your ramp.
2. Don't Use a Metal Shovel
Metal shovels can scratch your ramp, leaving it looking dingy in the spring. Instead, use a plastic shovel or a push broom to remove the snow.
3. Use a Leaf Blower
Use a leaf blower, and you’ll have a snow-free ramp in minutes. This method won’t be as effective when temps are on the verge of freezing and the snow is wet and heavy, so keep that plastic shovel on standby as a backup.
As the ground freezes and thaws you may find that your ramp has settled. If that’s the case, give us a call at 810-213-6377 or complete the form below, and we can re-level it for you.
